  • Aquaman star Heard, comedian Kaling and actress January Jones are raising their kids as single mums, as Spice Girl Geri Halliwell and Minnie Driver once did before them
  • Former Fugees singer Lauryn Hill has five children with Bob Marley’s son Rohan, but the paternity of her sixth child Micah is still not known

When a celebrity announces news of a baby, whether biological or adoptive, the lucky parents are usually showered with congratulatory wishes. But some stars are reluctant to share details of their child’s parentage. Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, for instance, kept the identity of her daughter Bluebell’s dad under wraps until it emerged years later that it was former journalist Sacha Gervasi .

Fellow Briton Minnie Driver was coy about the paternity of her child too, with Padma Lakshmi’s baby daddy not revealed for a long time as well. The actress and TV show host admitted in her memoir Love, Loss and What We Ate that she stayed mum about his identity because, at the time, she was being intimate with two different men. She ultimately had to rely on a paternity test to settle the matter.

While the beans were eventually spilled in those cases, other celebrities have remained tight-lipped until now …

Amber Heard

The actress revealed that she had become a mother by posting a picture of her newborn daughter, Oonagh Paige, on social media in July 2021. Telling followers how she was “excited to share this news”, she revealed that she decided she wanted to have a child four years prior and “wanted to do it on my own terms”.

“I now appreciate how radical it is for us as women to think about one of the most fundamental parts of our destinies in this way,” she wrote in the caption of a picture showing her cuddling the toddler. “I hope we arrive at a point in which it’s normalised to not want a ring in order to have a crib.”

Heard addressed her intention to keep the full details of her becoming a mother under wraps as she continued, “A part of me wants to uphold that my private life is none of anyone’s business”, but added that she was putting the information out there due to the public nature of her job.
