  • They were a celebrity power couple before filing for divorce in 2019 – now Brad Pitt is suing Angelina Jolie for selling her stake in Chateau Miraval, which they bought together
  • Aside from its award-winning wines, the sprawling estate is home to swimming pools, a helicopter pad and a recording studio, and was the destination for the couple’s wedding in 2014

The battle for Chateau Miraval is far from over, as the world learned over the weekend. It’s official – Brad Pitt is suing ex-wife Angelina Jolie for selling her shares of the French estate to the Stoli Group, a Luxembourg-based spirits manufacturer manned by a Russian oligarch named Yuri Shefler.

The Hollywood power couple bought the estate in 2008 for an estimated 25 million euros (US$28.3 million). According to the lawsuit, both parties had agreed not to sell their interests in the property, the venue for their gorgeous destination wedding in 2014. Jolie filed for divorce in 2016 and told her ex-husband that she sold to Shefler in January 2021.

“She sold her interest with the knowledge and intention that Shefler and his affiliates would seek to control the business to which Putt had devoted himself and to undermine Pitt’s investment in Miraval,” the lawsuit claimed.

Since taking control of the estate, Pitt has invested heavily into the winery, and with a partnership with Famille Perrin, has produced acclaimed champagne and a rosé that was named one of the top 100 wines in the world by Wine Spectator.
