The couple matched online, started dating just before the pandemic hit and just got engaged on Valentine’s Day – with Biles calling it ‘the easiest yes’

Owens admitted he did not know who the gymnastics star was but the sporting soul mates bonded over shared humour and their experiences as elite athletes

Olympic gold-medal gymnast Simone Biles just said “the easiest yes” to her NFL player boyfriend, Jonathan Owens, on Valentine’s Day!

Her Instagram showed Owens popping the question on one knee and Biles reacting to her ring and her new fiancé. She captioned the post, “I can’t wait to spend forever and ever with you, you’re everything I dreamed of and more! Let’s get married, my fiancé …”

Two years of dating during the pandemic and Biles’ Olympic challenges saw their relationship going from strength to strength and now they have their happy ending. But just how did they get here?

Biles and Owens matched on dating app Raya just before the pandemic lockdown in March 2020. She slid into his DMs and was very interested, she told The Wall Street Journal. “I saw him and I was like, ‘Oh, he’s pretty cute,’ so I said hi. And then I saw that he was in the Houston area, so we started chatting a little bit, and then we went to hang out a week or two later.”

Biles liked that Owens didn’t know who she was, according to Texas Monthly. “I just hadn’t heard of her, and when I told her that, that’s one of the things she liked,” he said.

They took the pandemic as a chance to build their relationship

As the Covid-19 pandemic postponed Biles’ schedule for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics and Owens’ NFL training, the duo decided to focus on getting to know each other better.
