Princess Sofia of Sweden’s 4 most dazzling tiaras and jewellery, from The Palmette Tiara – a wedding day gift from King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia – to the Royal Order brooch
- The wife of Prince Carl Philip, the Duchess of Värmland always turns heads at public appearances – especially various Nobel Peace Prize banquets over the years
- She’s worn the Napoleonic Cut-Steel Bandeau, a smaller version of the one Crown Princess Victoria wears, and the historic Six-Button Tiara made with diamonds from King Karl XIV Johan’s crown
Here are just a few of the eye-catching jewels she’s donned over the years …
1. The Palmette Tiara
In its original design, the Art Deco-style tiara features diamond palmette motifs in graduated sizes, topped by a set of graduated pear-shaped emeralds. It is said that the tiara was crafted from an emerald necklace gifted to Queen Silvia by a Thai Prince. The jewels were sent back to Thailand to create the tiara in an effort to keep it as a surprise for Sofia.
The Palmette is highly versatile. The emeralds mounted on top can be removed and replaced with other gemstones, including turquoise pieces, to go with different outfits. In this picture taken at the Nobel Prize award ceremony in 2017, Princess Sofia achieves a different look with the Palmette Tiara, topped with teardrop shaped pearls.
