  • After a celebrated fashion turn with Tilda Swinton in Cannes, the Academy Award nominee went with homey Haider Ackermann in New York City
  • Co-chair for the night, the 25-year-old gave a nod to Gen Z with his high-fashion-meets-high-street look – here’s how to recreate the minimalist white outfit yourself

American actor Timothée Chalamet has been busy leaving his fashion mark on red carpets around the world. In September, after departing Cannes – where he orchestrated an adorable fashion moment with Tilda Swinton – and Venice, the Academy Award nominee landed in the Big Apple for another stellar event, the much-discussed Met Gala.

Adhering to this year’s theme of “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion”, the 25-year-old opted to source most of his look from home-grown designers, topped off with some French refinement.

The all-white ensemble featured a satin tuxedo jacket with contrasting black lapels, worn on top of a white polo neck by American designer Rick Owens. The refreshing and minimalist white jacket was created by French designer Haider Ackermann, long-time dressmaker for Chalamet’s big moments.

The daring parts of his outfit were the Rick Owens sweatpants and Converse Chuck Taylor trainers – items often reserved for casual weekends rather than the red carpet, but the Dune actor pulled it off with grace. He also wore a 1928 vintage Cartier Cliquet pin and a star brooch for a touch of luxury.

Combining high fashion with high street – a nod to Gen Z as a co-chair of the night – the outfit was touted for being Met Gala-appropriate yet fit for more everyday occasions too.

Here’s how to achieve the dapper Chalamet look …
