  • Daughter of actor Sanjay Kapoor and jewellery designer Maheep Sandhu, Shanaya was the breakout face of Kardashian-inspired reality show The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives
  • The Bollywood heir is also cousin to actors Sonam, Janhvi and Harshvardhan Kapoor, and BFFs with actress Ananya Pandey and Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter Suhana

A new generation of Bollywood film stars is coming through, pushed in part by the huge cultural shift in audience as people have flocked to streaming platforms during the pandemic. Among the host of actors on the rise, one of the more popular is Shanaya Kapoor who appeared in Netflix’s The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives (modelled on Keeping up with the Kardashians).

If her name sounds familiar, it’s for good reason. Shanaya is the daughter of actor Sanjay Kapoor and jewellery designer Maheep Sandhu, who are both featured in the show. Now 21-year-old Shanaya Kapoor is prepped to start her own Bollywood career with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, as she gears up for shooting her first film, as yet unnamed, starting this July.

So what else do we know about this rising star?

She has a Bollywood pedigree

Born into the Kapoor family, it is safe to say that Shanaya is in a good place when it comes to Bollywood – she is producer Boney Kapoor and actor Anil Kapoor’s niece, making her cousins with actors Sonam Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor and Harshvardhan Kapoor.

She is working on her dancing and acting

She may have attended Mumbai’s Ecole Mondiale World School, but in preparing herself for a career on the screen, she is being trained by Sanjana Muthreja, an acclaimed belly dancer who’s previously worked with Jacqueline Fernandez, Suhana Khan and others.
