  • Angelina Jolie found baby Maddox in Cambodia after filming Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in Southeast Asia, while Pax was three years old when she met him in Vietnam
  • Lana Condor from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Glee star Jenna Ushkowitz and Lee Han-gyul of K-pop boy band BAE173 all started out with no family

Many abandoned children’s lives are given renewed hope through adoption. If you want further proof, take a look below at how six celebrities – famous from Broadway, Bling Empire, K-pop and more – have got where they are today thanks in part to their adoptive families. We look at how they were adopted, what their lives were like before, and what they think about this life-altering process.

As fun as Bling Empire was to binge, it also touched on serious topics such as international adoption. In particular, model Kevin Kreider looked into his heritage and the show aired shots of his 23andMe DNA results, as well as of records from his adoption agency.

He discovered along with all of us that he was born in South Korea and left by his birth parents to his grandfather, who put him up for adoption. Back then, his name was Kim Tae-jin.

He was then adopted by an American family who lived in Philadelphia, and currently he is unable to find out more about his birth parents because the adoption centre requires him to know his parents’ social security numbers. The experience has brought him closer to his adoptive mother, however, and he told Bustle in an interview, “I used to talk to her maybe once every other week, [but] now we talk almost like every three days.”
