Vietnam

Heirs and heiresses to their family’s billions, these young Vietnamese are in the public eye attending fashion shows, driving supercars and posting about their lavish lifestyles

If you think Singapore and Malaysia are the only countries with real-life Crazy Rich Asians, think again. Vietnam is home to many descendants of big-fortune families – the reason why the “Rich Kids of Vietnam” movement is incredibly popular (their Instagram page has 102,000 followers to date). While many Vietnamese heirs and heiresses still prefer to remain relatively unknown, some have opened up and made their presence felt on social media. Here are five of Vietnam’s young and mega-wealthy you need to know.

Tien Nguyen

You can’t make a list of Vietnam’s most wealthy young people without putting billionaire heiress Tien Nguyen at the top. You may know her as one of the country’s most high-profile coronavirus victims (she has, fortunately, made a smooth recovery since).

As the daughter of Imex Pan Pacific Group’s (IPPG) billionaire chairman Jonathan Hanh Nguyen, Tien is easily the most recognised “rich kid”. Seeing that her father’s company is a distributor of luxury brands such as Burberry, Bulgari, Armani and Versace, it’s not surprising that she also has a keen appetite for high fashion and runway shows.

Nga Nguyen

The 27-year-old daughter of a steel tycoon and a King’s College London graduate, Nga is a big-time fashion maven. Having earned her stripes working for LVMH in Paris, she is now a regular presence at international fashion shows. And as her Met Gala 2018 alum status would prove, she has even earned the trust of Anna Wintour.

But it was Nga’s state of health, and not her fashion choices, that made headlines earlier this year. As Vietnam’s first Covid-19 patient, the socialite tested positive for the virus soon after attending fashion shows in Paris, Milan and London. Her sister, Nguyen Hong Nhung, who was with her throughout the trip, was also affected. Thankfully, the high-profile sisters have recovered.
