Singapore

From sculptor Kim Lim to Vanness Wu’s ex-wife Arissa Cheo, these’s 5 young faces from 5 of the Lion City’s most prominent families – Kuok, Kwee, Ng, Cheo and Lim – are making the most of their wealth, status and connections to live the kind of lives the rest of us can only dream of

There’s a reason why Singapore was the chosen backdrop of Kevin Kwan’s novel Crazy Rich Asianslater adapted into that hit movie starring Henry Golding. With a population of fewer than six million people, it may be the smallest country in Southeast Asia. Still, its percentage of wealth in proportion to its people is relatively high.

According to the “2019 Global Wealth Report” released by Credit Suisse, 2.18 million people in Singapore were part of the top 10 per cent of the global wealth population. And as of this year, the country’s wealthiest people are worth a combined total of US$111.7 billion.

With these numbers blazed on our minds, we can’t help wonder: just who are Singapore’s real-life young, elite and crazy rich? Let’s find out.

Evan Kwee

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Evan Kwee is worth US$5 billion. After all, he is the son of Indonesian textile and real estate tycoon Henry Kwee.

The Babson College graduate is currently the vice-chairman of the Capella Hotel Group as well as the head of design and hospitality at Pontiac Land Group. His personal life is as high profile as his career trajectory, as proven by his marriage to Claudia Sondakh, who comes from one of Indonesia’s wealthiest families.

But Kwee is not as intimidating as he would appear. The cycling enthusiast reportedly prefers paddling to work in favour of commuting in a limousine.
