7 perfect covers by BTS that showcase why the K-pop boy band is an international sensation
K-pop’s BTS are stars the world over, having performed countless covers of fellow K-pop legends and global pop singers, from Big Bang to Troye Sivan. Here are seven of our favourite covers
While the boys of BTS have become global superstars, with thousands of fan covers of their songs, we’ve listed our favourite covers by them. BTS has covered K-pop legends and Brit-pop royalty with finesse, whether as a group, a duo or solo.
1. Shinhwa – Perfect Man
Back when BTS was starting to gain domestic and global recognition for The Most Beautiful Moment in Life albums, the band covered first generation idol group Shinhwa’s 2002 bop, The Perfect Man during the 2015 MBC Music Festival. While Jungkook’s smooth vocals did justice to Shinhwa member Kim Dongwan’s parts, Jimin stole the show as he tackled Lee Minwoo’s lines. The group presented a more boyish look and feel to the song – we just wish it was longer so all the members had more to contribute.
2. Park Ji-yoon – Coming of Age Ceremony
Park Ji-yoon’s sultry song from 2000 tells a love interest she has become a woman, and the track has been covered by many a female idol, so a male cover by lead and main vocalists Jimin and Jungkook was more than welcome. We loved their spin on the dance break, which sees them don fedoras and tease fans by half-removing their suit jackets. While this was purely a dance cover for the annual BTS Festa, we reckon Jimin’s breathy vocals and Jongkook’s falsetto could easily cover this classic.
3. Big Bang – If You
“Golden Maknae” (youngest member) and main vocalist Jungkook appeared as a contestant on episode 72 of The King of Mask Singer. His soulful rendition of Big Bang’s haunting 2016 ballad off their monster MADE series had the panel and audience screaming for more, as his voice filled with emotion when he approached the chorus. While Jungkook didn’t win, we’re sure ARMYs across the world are waiting for a full cover.
4. Charlie Puth ft. Selena Gomez – We Don’t Talk Anymore
Before Charlie Puth fan Jeongkook got the chance to perform this with his idol at the 2018 MBCPlus x Genie Music Awards, Jimin and Jungkook recorded their own version of the 2016 tropical pop tune. Jungkook sounds eerily like Puth, with both members impressing with their English pronunciation. We actually prefer this version to the official collab.
