Talented chefs at Akikan Robatayaki turn fresh ingredients into Japanese classics
Restaurant has an impressive robata menu and also offers sushi, omakase, tempura yakimono menus as well as a range of Japanese classics
The restaurant has a substantial robata menu, and also offers premium sushi options and a range of classic Japanese fare. Fresh ingredients are flown in daily, which - after a spell in the hands of talented chefs - end up as high-quality dishes that are a treat for fish and meat-lovers.
We opted for an omakase menu which started with grilled eggplant served as an amuse bouche, followed by seven courses of sashimi, soup, yakimono (grilled dishes), and tempura, and finished with a light umeshu jelly with gold leaf.
While all the dishes impressed, Akikan Robatayaki’s menu highlights are prepared in the upstairs robata bar and the downstairs sushi bar. The grilled beef (HK$180), scallop (seasonal price) and eel (HK$110) were all fantastic, with the succulent wagyu being a conversation-stopper. Other small bites on the yakimono menu include vegetables, lamb, chicken and pork (HK$50 to HK$180).
The sashimi is fresh and full of flavour. We sampled slices of fatty tuna, sea urchin, amberjack, sea bream, golden snapper and yellow tail (servings from HK$250 to HK$600).
