Wasabi Warriors serves Westernised but tasty sushi bites and rolls for those in need of a quick meal
have plenty of cool and edgy shops where you can drop by for a quick and healthy bite, and sushi takeaway has always been a popular option. The latest to offer fast food sushi is Australian import Wasabi Warriors.
Located on Stanley Street, the franchise has a cool interior of bamboo patterns with a Japanese drum, and eco-friendly concepts such as the use of organic free-range chicken and Norwegian farmed salmon. The fridge counter is filled with ready-made items to choose from, and the friendly staff will package it in disposable plastic containers with packets of sauces and bamboo chopsticks.
The fresh salmon (HK$10) and raw scallop nigiri (HK$12) didn't disappoint as the seafood was fatty and thickly sliced. The seared teriyaki salmon and avocado with mayonnaise (HK$12) was also a good choice, but it would be better if the fish were freshly seared and not chilled (although at this price, it's hard to complain).
The highlight of the menu is the huge variety of hand rolls — if you buy three, you get an extra nigiri. The soft shell crab and lettuce with wasabi mayonnaise roll (HK$28) is a delicious, crunchy combination, whereas the crumbed chicken and avocado with spicy mayonnaise (HK$35) has a nice kick from the mild chilli powder sprinkled on the seaweed, although the chicken was a little dry. Our favourite was the marinated Peking duck and shallots rice roll (HK$32), which was a good variation on the traditional Chinese dish.
If you're not into a cold meal, try the hot boxes of rice with teriyaki beef or chicken with miso soup (HK$58) or with grilled eel (HK$78).
