From the creators ofcrêperie Fleur de Sel comes Grain de Sel Crêperie, a cosy takeaway outlet, located on a small corner in Sheung Wan. The shop has a warm vibe and lovely decor. There are two small seats that are taken immediately as lunch hour starts. The menu lists galettes (savoury buckwheat pancakes) and sweet crêpes that in France are eaten as snacks and light meals.

The French galettes served at Grain de Sel come with a variety of fillings. The traditional "chef's complete" (HK$50) is a simple affair of ham, Emmental cheese, and a choice of spinach, mushroom, tomato, onion or ratatouille. The lunch set (HK$68) - the chef's complete with either soup or salad - is a bargain. The Savoyarde (HK$70) is a satisfying galette with crisp bacon, potato, onions and oozing reblochon cheese, although perhaps it's not the healthiest of choices. A more upmarket galette is the Sarladaise (HK$80), which is filled with delicious duck confit, mushroom and potato, with a parsley and garlic sauce served on the side. The buckwheat batter was perfect for the savoury crêpes, but some were slightly burned at the edges, giving them a bitter taste.

To end the meal, try the crêpes with classic and simple fillings of butter and sugar, Nutella, or house-made salted caramel fillings (HK$20). If you want something more, there's la poire (HK$50) - cooked pear, lavender, almond and chocolate sauce, or the crêpe Suzette (HK$50) with house-made orange sauce and Grand Marnier.

In addition to galettes and crêpes, Grain de Sel also sells French baked goods including baguettes, croissants and pain au chocolat.
