Understanding how the brain does what it does and using that to develop solutions to common problems in technology is the dream of many entrepreneurs, including Baidu's Robin Li Yanhong. Baidu has launched its "China Brain" programme to come up with neuroscientific solutions in a range of fields, from medical diagnostics to commercial robotics.
Other solutions have the potential to be even more game changing. The list below includes "five emerging technologies that offer a glimpse into the future promise of brain science", according to professor Murali Doraiswamy of the Duke Institute for Brain Sciences, writing at the World Economic Forum website.
