Why the new Porsche 911 Carrera S is faster, more powerful and a better drive than ever
With new turbos, better cooling, an upgraded engine and power distribution, the Porsche Carrera S is a car to be reckoned with
Porsche is expanding its current 911 range with the introduction of a new Carrera S model.
Sitting between the 911 Carrera and Carrera GTS, the Carrera S has an “enhanced performance and driving dynamic” compared with its predecessor, with additional equipment and more power.
The 3-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six Boxer engine now produces 473bhp and 530Nm of torque, almost 30bhp more than the previous model.
The increase has come through new turbochargers and upgraded cooling and, as a result, the Carrera S will now go from 0-100 km/h (0-62mph) in 3.3 seconds and has a top speed of 308 km/h. All versions of the S will have an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, too.
Porsche has also upgraded the level of standard equipment that comes with the Carrera S, including 20/21-inch staggered alloy wheels, a sports exhaust system with silver-finished tailpipes and Porsche’s Torque Vectoring Plus system, which intelligently moves power around the wheels via electronic control.
