Two Percent Fitness, gym that specialises in personal training, opens in Hong Kong after delay because of virus lockdown, and the co-founders, including celebrity James Wong, breathe a sigh of relief
- Two Percent Fitness will help clients ‘be in the top two per cent who are willing to make an effort for their fitness and wellness’, says one of its founders
- The idea for the gym was conceived in mid-2020 but it delayed opening until recently because of citywide closures to curb the spread of Covid-19
The moment the first client walked into Two Percent Fitness in the heart of Hong Kong’s Central district on February 18, founders Keith Lee and James Wong breathed a small sigh of relief.
Designed exclusively for personal training, the 1,600 sq ft (150 square metre) space features well spaced-out, top-of-the-line gym amenities in a slick interior. Is it, as its name suggests, aiming to attract the top two per cent of the wealthy in Hong Kong? “No, no!” exclaim Lee and Wong in chorus.
Personal training sessions cost around HK$1,000 (US$129) a time, more or less on par with other gyms. Two Percent Fitness specialises in weight-loss management and body recomposition – this is not the place to faff around and pose on social media, although there is a funky wall to do just that. It is for setting and meeting serious goals.
The idea for the gym was conceived in mid-2020, before the city was hit with the third and fourth waves of the pandemic that triggered the shutdowns. The five founders – all health enthusiasts – were mentally and financially prepared for what was to come. But even they could not foresee a 150-day-plus closure of gyms.
