As the year draws to a close, it is a good time to call on friends and acquaintances alike to catch up over a good cup of coffee.
Fortunately Hong Kong is not left wanting, with new cafes and coffee shops opening on both sides of Victoria Harbour.
1. Ramie
From the team behind Sai Kung’s Hush Hush cafe comes this chocolate, tea and coffee specialist on the outskirts of Causeway Bay on Hong Kong Island.
Ramie has just shy of a dozen seats – few of them matching – that are often occupied by cocoa fans coming by for its signature hot chocolate and its Monte Carlo drink, a mix of coffee and chocolate. Do not miss the chocolate truffle tart.

2. Hara Kako
Hong Kong Island light-roast specialist Hara Kako has made the leap over the harbour to open its first in-mall location at Elements in Kowloon, conveniently situated in the spot just before the bridge connecting the shopping centre to M+ museum and the West Kowloon Art Park.
There are not many seats, but the location makes it easy to grab and go coffee to enjoy in the sunshine.

3. Flow Float
After closing its Causeway Bay store in the summer, and spending autumn attending the Tokyo Coffee Festival, the Flow Float team is back and ready to brew.
The new cafe, in Sheung Wan, deviates from the light-and-airy aesthetic typical of such premises; it is decked out in black with lime green and bright purple accents, decor that exudes a 1980s vibe.

4. Islet Coffee Lab
The original Islet in Quarry Bay’s Quarryside development has a more outdoors vibe, but this new branch plays up its arty side as a brew bar inside On Lan Street’s Shout Art Hub and Gallery.
Soak up the sounds from vinyl records playing while admiring the latest collection of art on display.

5. Kindly Tails
Originally based in Tai Wai, animal-friendly cafe Kindly Tails has opened on North Point’s Kam Ping Street, which is becoming a hub for independent shops and cafes.
Patrons can expect baked goods, from almond and fig cookies to pumpkin cheesecake, along with genmaicha lattes and coffee.
