14 Hong Kong restaurants and bars to try in December 2024, from new names to reopenings
A fine-dining favourite, a Japanese cheesecake shop and a Bangladeshi restaurant promising comfort food are a few to look out for this month
Hong Kong has no shortage of new places to eat and drink in the run-up to Christmas. Among them are imports from Japan – such as an eel rice restaurant from Nagoya and a trendy cheesecake shop – as well as a new bar concept from the UK.
1. Akatsuki
The ground floor of Plaisance in Central houses a new Japanese izakaya concept called Akatsuki, which serves homestyle dishes such as deep-fried kushikatsu and grilled skewers.
Highlights of the menu include kushikatsu amadai and a Hida beef sando. Those who live or work in Central and are looking for a quick lunch will be happy to know that Akatsuki offers a bento set lunch menu that ranges in price from HK$258 (US$33) to HK$488 – ideal for a weekday catch-up.

2. Medora and Liz & Tori
Vicky Cheng has opened two new concepts. Gelateria Liz & Tori, named after his daughters, offers 10 gourmet gelato flavours, including hazelnut crunch and strawberry cream swirl.
