Where an American in Hong Kong goes for ice cream sandwiches that remind her of home
A Europe-raised American in love with Asian food reveals her favourite Hong Kong restaurants and the place she goes for a taste of home
In addition to being principal designer of studio B Squared Design, Britta Butler recently launched The Liebling, a bespoke brand of luxury pet beds in Hong Kong. She spoke to Andrew Sun.
I was born and raised in the USA, but spent some of my childhood years in Europe, so while I did grow up eating typical American fare – mac and cheese, hamburgers – I was also exposed to German, French, Italian and other types of cuisine. The one food that I did not have often was Asian, which I now love, so I am very happy to live in Hong Kong.
The night brunch at Zuma (Shop 501-503 & 601-603, Landmark Atrium, 15 Queen’s Road Central. Tel: 3657 6388) is loads of fun with multiple courses and a DJ. The people-watching never disappoints. The day brunch is great too, and you can sit on the sofas on the terrace.
For dinner, The Monogamous Chinese (G/F, 59 Caine Road, Mid-Levels. Tel: 2523 2872) is always fun for group dinners and delicious Chinese, Cantonese and Sichuan dishes.
Another one of my favourite places that is a little bit out of the way, in Stanley, is Bubbles & Wines (Shop B1, G/F, 26 Stanley Main Street, Stanley. Tel: 5721 6161).
