Australian Vogue fashion editor shares her must-have outfits and jewellery
Zara Wong is the fashion features and content strategy director of Vogue Australia. The editor, who has worked in New York and Hong Kong, opens up her home and shares her wardrobe favourites
“I’ve interviewed so many people about their own personal style, so it’s hard when the roles are reversed. My style is eclectically elegant. Or elegantly eclectic! I’m drawn to textures and I love a mix, and the unexpected. High and low, sequins with denim, a surprisingly piece of jewellery worn with a minimalist outfit or clashing prints. Elegant for me shouldn’t ever be too polished and edgy shouldn’t ever be too hard.”
“My grandmother handed down to me this Chanel handbag. She was sent to boarding school in Hong Kong and has incredible style, which she has passed onto my mother and me. That, and her obsession with handbags. My grandmother is very elegant, while my mother is more edgy – I’m in between.
My grandmother would say that a woman needs a tan coat and pearl earrings. My mother never wears dresses and always told me denim and great boots solve all sartorial problems! She lived in Hong Kong too, and it’s one of her favourite cities, so I grew up going to Hong Kong regularly. Coming from Sydney, we’re so used to travelling long distances so the nine-hour trip to Hong Kong is a breeze.”
