The one-two punch of Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine reasserted Disney’s stronghold on the box office following a shaky start to the year, banking more than US$2.8 billion – and counting – between them.

But as summer makes way for the cooler months of autumn, what are the likely big hitters on the horizon between now and the end of the year?

Unsurprisingly, a smorgasbord of sequels, prequels and adaptations dominate the calendar. Below are 12 of the most likely Hollywood success stories (opening dates are for Hong Kong).

1. Speak No Evil

Horror hit factory Blumhouse remakes the celebrated 2022 Danish thriller, with Scoot McNairy and Mackenzie Davis playing a holidaying couple who accept an invitation from James McAvoy’s seemingly affable doctor to stay at his family’s country house.

No sooner have they arrived than the weekend takes a violent and menacing turn.

McAvoy has shown his darker side in the past, but whether this remake can also recapture the provocative, satirical edge of the original remains to be seen. (Opens on September 12)

2. It Ends With Us

A surprise success at the US box office, this romantic drama starring Blake Lively knocked hubby Ryan Reynolds’ superhero behemoth Deadpool & Wolverine off the top spot last month, albeit momentarily.
