People in Hong Kong are pretty much grounded this Christmas, thanks to travel restrictions and some of the world’s toughest coronavirus quarantine rules. Luckily, there is no shortage of things to do in the city during the festive season, with some of the big shopping malls coming up with creative (if not downright outlandish) decorations to draw crowds.

Christmas is also a time for giving, and this year there are plenty of opportunities for you to do your share. Here are five shopping centres worth visiting, for that perfect Instagram photo and for doing something good before the start of 2022.

The Landmark, Central

The Pink Bobos, Dinoshaun, CoCo, Dr Zoom, Gizmo and Teddy Paws – we’re not sure who they are, exactly, but they’re certainly adding a splash of colour to the shopping centre’s atrium. Attractions this year include a slinky slide and the Merry Fair, offering a one-minute virtual reality adventure, which runs until January 2, 2022.

Make-A-Wish Hong Kong, a non-profit organisation, is also holding a sale there until January 2. The charity helps children suffering from critical illnesses to realise their wishes.

Pacific Place, Admiralty

Have you spotted the yeti in Pacific Place? The friendly creature (it waves to passers-by) is part of its Santa’s Lodge installation, complete with igloos, Christmas trees and mini cable cars.
