Singers Irene and Seulgi of K-pop outfit Red Velvet are breaking new ground for the girl group with their debut solo project.

The new duo Irene & Seulgi – the first subunit of Red Velvet – released their first album, Monster, on Monday. It immediately hit the top of multiple music streaming charts, including the iTunes charts in 45 regions worldwide.

The duo say they are “confident of their chemistry”, despite being the first spin-off act from Red Velvet.

“We spent the most time together of the members, so we have a different kind of chemistry than what we showed with the group,” Seulgi says.
