There is music for all tastes in Hong Kong this weekend, from a K-pop star’s Asia tour stop, to Celtic melodies and Gypsy swing at the Fringe Club, in Central.
Here are our top five recommendations for arts-related things to do for this weekend.
1. Youngjae’s Once in a Dream Asia Tour
Choi Young-jae, from the K-pop boy band GoT7, will perform at AXA Dreamland, a new venue in Ma On Shan, on September 7 as part of his Once in a Dream Asia tour.
This is Choi’s third solo tour in the region, and it could be his last before he enlists for his compulsory national service in South Korea’s armed forces.
Choi, who is known as Youngjae by his fans, has been GoT7’s main vocalist since the band – which also includes Hong Kong-born Jackson Wang – made its debut in 2014.
He began his solo career in 2014 and is best-known for his 2023 album Do It.
Tickets cost HK$799-HK$1,599 and can be bought here.

2. Star Nest Music Festival

The phenomenal line-up of this two-day outdoor Asian music festival includes K-pop acts CL, Sunmi, HyunA, Kiss of Life, NCT Wish and Treasure, and Taiwanese hip-hop artists OZI, Marz23 and J.Sheon.
Korea’s “Street Woman Fighter 2” dance competition champion, Bebe, will also make an appearance.
Performances take place from 4-10pm on Saturday September 7 and Sunday September 8 at AXA x Wonderland in the West Kowloon Cultural District.

3. WestK x Reframe Theatre: Post Office in Hell – The Origin

You do not need to have seen Post Office in Hell (Part One), performed in Hong Kong back in March, to follow this play about a postman who delivers letters to ghosts.
Playwright-director Yan Pat-to’s adaptation of Westwingmoon’s popular web fiction tells the origin story of Nam Moon Leung, a rookie postman with the ability to deliver letters between the real world and the afterlife.
This one-man show, which is presented by Hong Kong’s Reframe Theatre and West Kowloon Cultural District, explores life and death, and the possibility of redemption.
As the postman sees the many regrets of different clients, he begins to examine his own life and relationships with close ones.
Standard tickets for the show, which will be performed in Cantonese with Chinese and English subtitles, cost HK$380 and HK$420 (Tickets can be bought here).
WestK x Reframe Theatre: Post Office in Hell – The Origin, The Box, Freespace, West Kowloon Cultural District. Performances from September 5-8 and at 3pm, 8pm, or 3pm and 8pm, depending on the day.
4. Photography artist Simon Wan’s Pixelated Chronicles: 107 No Man Islands (Sharing Session)

Simon Wan Chi-chung, artist and founder of Hong Kong photography studio The Photocrafters, will present a novel visual experience about his photography project 107 No Man Islands on September 8.
Between 2015 and 2017, he spent 16 days kayaking to 107 deserted islands in Hong Kong, and has compiled the images he captured along the way into a monochromic silver gelatin print that is 30 metres (100 feet) long.
The session, about photographing endurance and extreme sports, will be held at Wyndham Social art centre in Central. It is free, but online registration is required, and can be done here.

5. Allure Music Nights at the Fringe Club – A Tapestry of European Melodies

Spend a jazzy night at the Fringe Club this Sunday and immerse yourself in Celtic melodies and Gypsy swing.
The Allure Music Night will feature Oregon-based women’s vocal group Kitchen Ceilidh, and Hong Kong-based French Gypsy jazz band Hot Club de Hong Kong.
The four members of folk group Kitchen Ceilidh will perform songs inspired by the cultures of the East Coast of Canada, the Scottish Shetland Islands and Ireland.
Hot Club de Hong Kong is influenced by the father of gypsy jazz, Django Reinhardt, as well as a diverse range of music genres from swing to bossa nova and movie score to pop.
Kitchen Ceilidh’s set begins at 6:30pm. Hot Club de Hong Kong take the stage at 8pm.
Tickets are priced from HK$288 to HK488 and are available here.
