1. Cy Leo x Hong Kong Sinfonietta
With Yip Wing-sie conducting, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta is performing George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with a twist.
Instead of the piano, the solo part will be played by harmonica extraordinaire CY Leo.
Leo and the orchestra will also perform Robert Farnon’s Prelude and Dance for Harmonica & Orchestra, while the evening will culminate in another Gershwin: An American in Paris.
Hong Kong City Hall, Concert Hall, 5 Edinburgh Place, Central, Aug 10, 8pm. Tickets available on Urbtix, with prices ranging from HK$200 to HK$480.
2. Le Villi – A Centennial Celebration of Puccini’s 100th Anniversary
This weekend, celebrate the 100th anniversary of Giacomo Puccini’s Le Villi – an opera-ballet that showcases the composer’s early genius – at the Sheung Wan Civic Centre.
Performed in Italian with Chinese and English subtitles, this two-act, rarely seen stage work was Puccini’s first, and has no shortage of enchanting melodies and dramatic flair.
