A visitor looks at a display of Australian wines at the China International Import Expo in Shanghai on November 5. Disputes over issues ranging from Xinjaing to 5G and Australia’s support for a probe into the origin of the coronavirus have sparked a trade spat and higher Chinese import duties or outright bans on Australian products, including wine and coal. The Australian government is a fool for taking on China. We are much better off being friends with them and working together to build each other up. I am so sick of our leaders doing the bidding of the United States even when it costs us dearly. When will our leaders finally realise that the US needs us more than we need them? Stop buying billions of dollars of worthless war equipment and start building our infrastructure. China is leaping ahead while we stay in the dark ages with the US.

I refer also to reports on how we are going to be making our own guided missiles in Australia. I am so disappointed with this government going down the American road of building our economy on making weapons that are designed to kill.

I really get upset when I think of all the good those billions of dollars could do – how they could create jobs for the future in exciting new areas and educate our people. This is a very sad day for Australia and has doomed us to a cycle of war-mongering to keep our economy alive.

Australia is missing out on so much by doing as the US asks. We are holding our country back as other nations move into the future. I read newspapers from all over the world, and you would be amazed at what countries we call our enemies are doing. We should be friends with China, Russia and Iran. They are doing the best they can, and they are making mistakes just as we are. The hatred for people of other nations that has developed since this government has been in is frightening.

Will iron ore be dragged into the ongoing China-Australia trade conflict?

We should be looking at ways to unite our countries, not isolate us from more than half the world. Not even a common enemy such as Covid-19 could bring us together. It’s up to our leaders to extend an olive branch to these countries and put Australia first.
