Airbus A350 makes maiden flight

The latest jet from Europe's Airbus makes its maiden flight at the company's Toulouse base in southwest France. The development of the A350 has taken seven years and cost the company US$15 billion. Airbus hopes its first aircraft built mainly from lightweight carbon composites will reduce US rival Boeing's lead in the market for long-haul, wide-bodied jets where it offers the 787 Dreamliner.

 

Hong Kong-listed aluminium giant Rusal holds its annual general meeting in the city, with doubts over the future of its one remaining local director. Sual Partners, which owns 15.8 per cent of Rusal, has tabled a resolution to remove former Secretary for Justice Elsie Leung Oi-sie from the board after the company's former chairman, Barry Cheung Chun-yuen, stepped down in controversial circumstances last month.
