ZTE Corp introduced the latest member of its Blade mobile phone series, the Blade S6, to the Hong Kong market yesterday, marking the international launch of the product that costs US$250.
The mainland's largest listed telecommunications equipment manufacturer said it shipped 100 million mobile devices globally last year, including 48 million smartphones, adding that smartphones contributed 70 per cent of the total revenue of its mobile device business.
"We very much sought to push the envelope with Blade S6, and to do so in a way that would appeal to youths, as well as those with active social lives," said Adam Zeng Xuezhong, an executive vice-president of ZTE and chief executive of ZTE Mobile Devices.
Zeng said more than 20 million units of the Blade series had been sold globally since the first model was launched in 2010.
Blade S6 features "smart sense" technology, which includes intuitive sets of gesture and motion controls.
The phone will be available online globally on AliExpress, and all shipping charges will be waived for consumers who order the phone through the online platform.
