HKMA’s global financial summit, BIS conference to bring hundreds of bankers to Hong Kong in November
- 280 CEOs of top global financial firms are likely to attend the Global Financial Leaders’ Investment Summit from November 6 to 8
- The Bank for International Settlements will host its annual governors’ meeting along with a forum on November 27 and 28
Nearly 300 top global banking and finance executives and scores of central bankers will descend on Hong Kong in November for two conferences hosted by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA).
The city’s de facto central bank is organising the second edition of the Global Financial Leaders’ Investment Summit from November 6 to 8 at the Four Seasons Hotel, followed by the annual governors’ meeting of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) on November 27.
Coinciding with the HKMA’s 30th anniversary, the two events are part of Hong Kong’s efforts to show the world that the city is back to normal after three years of disruptions caused by the pandemic.
The HKMA expects 280 CEOs and senior banking and finance executives to attend the summit, said CEO Eddie Yue Wai-man. Of the invites sent out so far, almost 60 have accepted and more are likely to respond, he added.
“Overall, the response is stronger than last year when we hosted the first summit, when the pandemic was still on,” Yue said in an media interview. “The positive response is also because this year’s summit is to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the HKMA. As these financial firms are our partners, their top bosses would like to come to join our birthday party.”
