Making the most of your time in the gym is important. The average time that members spend in a gym is 45 - 60 minutes. This may be based on the time you have, you may be on a lunch break or that you feel you can give yourself a good-enough workout within that time.
From experience of working in the fitness industry, we know that people often stay in the gym for an hour or attend a class (that lasts an hour) and then they go home because “that is about the right amount of time” people spend in the gym.
Well that is correct in some ways. But it depends on what you do.
First of all, training for longer periods will not lead to more benefit. It is possible to get greater benefits in 30 minutes than in 60 minutes, if the intensity of the 30 minutes is enough.
Training for longer than 45 minutes can have a reverse effect. If you are looking to burn body fat, your body will start to produce a stress hormone called Cortisol after 45 minutes of steady state exercise. Cortisol stores body fat! So working out for over 60 minutes is not recommended for fat loss.
