Fashion lovers flock to courtyard for designs fresh from Paris
Paris Fashion Week may be over, but the spirit lives on at K11, the 'art shopping mall' in Kowloon. K11's new promotion, Paris, Bonjour!, began with much fanfare as hordes of fashion lovers crowded its outdoor courtyard to get a peek at Chinese designer Xiao Yu.
She showed off her new designs fresh from an exhibition in Paris. Xiao, a graduate of the Academy of Arts and Design at Tsinghua University in Beijing and the London College of Fashion, gained notoriety with the success of her graduation work TIME, which appeared at the MA 'Asylum' Show at the Royal Academy of Arts. Guests were treated to a display of her designs as well as an interpretive dance by Beijing Dance Academy alumni Huang Huan and Yin Fang featuring her creations.
The performance was accompanied by live electronic music from composer Thomas Goguelin, playing a little-known electronic instrument, the karlax.
Up-and-coming Jiangsu photographer Li Shun and local photographer Will Hui also made an appearance at the launch on Thursday.
