Border festival plea to boost friendly exchanges
Jin Shuoren, an NPC deputy from Jilin, has proposed the setting up of a border areas festival, the People's Daily reports. Jin said it could strengthen people's care and support of border areas, drive economic development and promote exchanges among different nationalities.
Tax break for noodles and steamed buns urged
Li Jingxian, a member of the China Democratic League's national standing committee and a delegate, has proposed that daily necessities such as noodles and steamed buns should be exempted from value added tax, the People's Daily reports. He also suggested exemptions on water, electricity and coal up to certain limits, based on the number of people in a household.
Airport security charge 'should be scrapped'
Hubei NPC deputy Ye Qing , also vice-director of the province's statistics bureau, suggested that the country's airports stop charging passengers 'airport construction fees', which were introduced in 1992 to enhance security at Chinese airports, the Wuhan Evening News reports. In 2010, about 175 airports nationwide used the fee to charge passengers an additional 13.6 billion yuan (HK$16.7 billion). Ye said that removing the fee could improve airlines' competitiveness.
