Inflation was 2.6 per cent year on year last month, down from 3 per cent in August. The government said the figure was distorted by the final payment of a one-off electricity charge subsidy in August last year. Without the effect of any one-off relief measures, the consumer price index was 2.2 per cent, compared to 1.9 per cent in August, mainly because of rising public and private housing rents.
