At 62, Adam Cheng Siu-chow shows no sign of slowing down. The evergreen idol, who has been a professional actor and singer for almost four decades, returns to the stage in Macau four years after his last concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum.
'I will not give up singing no matter how busy I am,' says Cheng in a phone interview to promote his debut concert at the Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel tonight. The entertainer is the latest Canto-pop singer to perform in Macau following the likes of Kay Tse On-kei and Alan Tam Wing-lun who played in the casino city earlier this year.
Also known as Chow Goon, Cheng is one of Hong Kong's most celebrated and enduring performers who made a name for himself by playing suave and chivalrous leading men in period wuxia drama series, most notably for TVB in shows such as The Story of Book and Sword, Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre and Chor Lau Heung.
Also popular on the mainland and Taiwan, Cheng is an award-winning singer who has recorded numerous hits (many of them are theme songs of his TV series) and produced more than 40 albums. In addition, he has dabbled in radio dramas and hosted TV shows.
Fans seeing Cheng perform this evening may be interested to know the singer is closely involved in each facet of the production process of his concerts, from choosing the songs to writing witty patter for the interludes between the songs.
'I was racking my brain to bring something new and fresh to my songs because they are so familiar to many people,' he says.
