Sun, 3pm, 8pm, Cultural Centre
Canto-pop queen Joey Yung Cho-yee will celebrate her first decade in the music business with a special concert that is more about getting intimate with her audience than showing off theatrics.
She told local media she was not expecting a rowdy audience for the concert. 'It's going to be more quiet, because I'd like to show my appreciation for their support. I want everyone to feel like they are the only one I sing for,' she says.
Yung will sing a selection of her biggest hits such as My Pride. The concert will also be special for her because it is taking place at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, rather than conventional Canto-pop venues such as the Coliseum. 'It's where I took part in my first open singing contest - and won. That's how I got into the business. It changed my life. The place is very special to me,' she says.
Yung, right, was only 19 when she released her record-breaking debut single Unknown in 1999, and she has since gone from strength to strength, releasing over 60 albums that have sold more than five million copies worldwide and won her over 250 awards. She also has held almost 60 sold-out concerts and tours domestically and abroad, including on the mainland, the US, Canada, Singapore and Malaysia.
But she shows no signs of slowing down after her first decade. She released a Canto-pop album, A Time For Us in April, which has gone platinum, and followed that up with the Mando-pop album Very Busy in August, featuring hit singles such as Is That Love? and Children of the Motherland, which celebrates the 60th anniversary of the People's Republic of China.
