Chen Shui-bian's daughter faces her first charge: perjury
Chen Shui-bian's daughter Chen Hsing-yu - the only member of the former Taiwanese president's immediate family not previously facing criminal charges over his embezzlement and corruption case - was charged with perjury yesterday, as were her brother and her husband.
Ms Chen, her husband Chao Chien-ming and her brother Chen Chih-chung had been charged with giving false evidence because their testimonies, taken separately, were not consistent with one another, the Central News Agency reported.
Also charged with giving false evidence was Diana Chen, former director of Taipei 101, the signature skyscraper in Taiwan. Last month, she was accused of giving the former president and his wife, Wu Shu-chen, NT$10 million (HK$2.38 million) in bribes in April 2004.
Chen Yun-nan, spokesman for the Special Investigation Task Force under the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, said he would announce the details of the latest charges later, but others in the team confirmed that the four were listed as defendants after a meeting last month.
They will be taken to the Taipei District Prosecutor's Office.
Chen Hsing-yu took a qualification examination to become a practising dentist in New York in February.
