Why you can trust SCMP

Think you can cut it as the demon barber of Fleet Street? Then the Youth Arts Foundation wants to seek you out. They will be staging the dark and brooding musical Sweeney Todd as their flagship theatrical production this November and have just put out a call for talented young people to audition. They're looking for actors, singers and dancers aged 12 to 25. Potential performers should first go to Hkyaf.com to fill out the application form. The deadline is June 1, but audition registrations are arranged on a first come, first served basis.

Applicants should also prepare one minute of a song to be sung without accompaniment. A dance routine will also be taught at the try-out. Experience is preferred but enthusiasm is considered just as significant. The auditions will take place on Sunday, June 14. Experience with straight razors is definitely not necessary.

If the cut-throat world of amateur theatre is not suited to your artistic sensibility, the foundation is also seeking contemporary dancers with improvisational techniques and creativity to take part in its Arts in the Park event and the Swire Island East Urban Dance Festival, which take place later this year. The auditions will also be in June at the foundation's studio. For information on both auditions, call 2877 2656.
