Police data appears to have leaked onto the internet again. Records from the Sheung Shui police station of drugs seized and the personal particulars of suspects and an under-age girl have been exposed on the internet through file-sharing software Foxy.
Sixty-nine files, most believed to be from the police station, were downloaded yesterday by a Foxy user, who passed the information to the media. The user claimed the files had not been circulated on the Web.
Police said they were investigating whether the data had appeared on the Web as a result of a fresh leak or from previous leaks.
A lawmaker said the latest incident had further damaged the Hong Kong force's credibility.
'How can the public still have confidence in the force after they have issued so many guidelines and adopted so many measures to prevent data leakage?' said James To Kun-sun, a Democrat legislator.
Most of the files found yesterday were records on drugs seized between 2004 and late last year. They listed in detail the quantity of seized drugs held at the station and where they were stored.
