Bobsy Jureidini wants to save mankind by discouraging it from eating animals. The main goal of the Life Cafe owner's newest campaign, Save The Human!, is raising awareness about the harm created by the global livestock industry.

The group kicked off with a fund-raiser at Solas on Sunday with more than 200 veggie fans dropping by to view a campaign video, check out some dance performances and greet the vegan activist. Among the celebs at the launch was model Rosemary Vandenbrouke (pictured with Bobsy).

'I've been vegetarian for 17 years,' Bobsy, as he's commonly known, said. 'I became a veggie for environmental reasons when I found out the real cost of a hamburger. But in June, I was at a conference and learned a new link between going vegetarian and going green. I was shocked that a UN report basically said livestock production was the No1 cause of pollution, more than transport or industry. Eighteen per cent of all greenhouse gases is from producing livestock.'

He hopes to spread word on Save The Human! with posters on minibuses, trams and - if they can afford it - billboards. 'The idea is to give people the info and let them decide for themselves. So far, it's falling on open ears. We're not expecting everyone to go veggie overnight but to consider reducing meat consumption to maybe once or twice a week.'
