His rock-star treatment continues, but it may be getting a little less classy. Fans of Chris Patten who couldn't get enough of our last governor have another chance to meet him. Lord Patten has just written a book, What Next? Surviving the 21st Century, his take on the issues that confront us in this brave and scary new world. He will be in town for a book tour. The book has received positive reviews from such heavyweight publications as The Independent and the Financial Times. Among things you will learn from it is why he may be the only person on Earth never to have eaten a Big Mac.

One reviewer wrote: 'Every thinker on, or practitioner of, international affairs will profit from reading any book that Patten writes on foreign policy.'

The FT said: 'Patten is no grumpy old man propping up the saloon bar. He is an eloquent and wise voice in a cacophonous world. What Next? deserves a wide audience.'

You might have expected Lord Patten, the heavy intellectual, to sign his book in more august settings than HMV in Causeway Bay. November 3 is the date.
