While some want a little luck going into the individual showjumping finale, others already feel lucky the rules give them a fresh start.
With the team competition decided, the individual showjumping medals will be contested on Thursday night as the top 35 riders from Monday's competition advance to the first of two rounds.
'I need a bit of luck,' Ireland's Denis Lynch said. 'Hopefully, he [horse Lantinus] stays sound, I stay sound and nothing happens in between and then off we go.'
But world number one Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum said she was fortunate the 14 penalties she accumulated over the three qualifying rounds would not count towards the individual medal.
'I'm very lucky we start from zero,' the German rider said. 'It's a new game and from Thursday and I intend to be there. I feel I'm very close. I have to be better, but I'm very close.'
Though Belgium's Jos Lansik said each day was getting better with his horse Cumano, the 2006 individual world champion did not think winning an Olympic medal would be easy.
'I think 20 to 25 combinations have a chance and I am one of them,' Lansik said.
