What drives it? A 2,979cc, 306 brake-horsepower in-line  six-cyclinder engine linked to a six-speed automatic box.
How fast is it?  The 135i reaches 100kmh in 5.3 seconds and has  a top speed of 250km/h, BMW says.
How safe is it?  It's got adaptive steering, bi-xenon headlights, cornering brake control, dynamic stability control, driver and front-passenger front, head and side airbags, and anti-theft locks.
How thirsty is it? The 135i  slurps 9.6 litres per 100km on a combined cycle.
