A political party has urged mooncake makers to provide nutritional information with their products, after a survey found 70 per cent of people want to know about it.
A Democratic Party survey last week of 795 people showed that 70.7 per cent of respondents would study nutritional details on the packaging.
But the party found that none of the products it inspected included that information.
Party member Chan Shu-ying believed most of the respondents had mistaken the ingredients label for nutritional information.
'From this, it can be seen it will still take some time to educate the public on the nutritional information and what it really means,' Mr Chan said.
Of the 23.1 per cent who said they would buy 'healthy mooncakes' as opposed to traditional ones for their own consumption, 70.7 per cent said it was because these were healthier, while 9.8 per cent said they were attracted by the advertising.
Lawmaker and party member Fred Li Wah-ming said the party had sought advice from nutritionists and urged the public not to be misled by the claim that 'low sugar' content mooncakes were healthier.
