Police will follow up a claim that pan-democrat lawmaker Leung Kwok-hung received preferential treatment in a raid on a Tsim Sha Tsui disco.

The lawmaker, known as 'Long Hair', was reportedly seen leaving the disco after police raided it around midnight on Saturday.

Secretary for Security Ambrose Lee Siu-kwong would not comment specifically on the suggestion.

He insisted the police always had clear purposes for mounting operations. He said police carried out operations at discos and karaoke bars with 'clear objectives' such as finding under-age workers or carrying out drug busts. 'But they also have other considerations. They don't want to inconvenience other law-abiding people,

'If there is evidence that normal customers are not committing any offence, I don't think they have any reason to detain them.'

A police spokesman said Mr Leung had asked, through the disco manager, to leave and the officer in charge had granted his request.
