Sevens weekend is synonymous with wild excess, raucous revelry, heady high jinks, over-indulgence and conspicuous consumption. It's a hedonistic orgy which, while no Dante's Inferno, bears more than passing resemblance to a humungous outdoor den of iniquity.
All roads lead to Hong Kong Stadium as 40,000 souls let their collective hair down for 2? days of partying, ribaldry and general naughtiness. Surely it's no coincidence seven is also the number of the traditional 'deadly' sins.
Let's face it, Sevens and sinful misbehaviour are the perfect match. Flashing, streaking, cross-dressing, fashion fetishes, boorish jeering, manic dancing, on and off-key singing, saucy innuendo and off-colour banter are all part of the mad mosaic - not to mention a continuous round of eating and drinking.
So can you blame us for exploring the deadly sins of yore in a Sevens context. Starting on this page we'll take you on a sin-by-sin illustrated guide to those deadly 'dos and don'ts' and how they mesh with the Hong Kong Sevens.
If you are among the fortunate ones at the stadium and can go through the weekend without engaging in or witnessing at least four of the seven we would disrespectfully suggest you've failed to embrace the spirit and wasted a heaven-sent opportunity.
And that would be a sin.
