Octopus suspended until further notice its EPS add-value service at all MTR and KCR stations last night after reports of wrongful deductions.
The suspension is the second transaction-related incident in less than a month involving the Octopus smart card system.
Octopus said that after a recent communication network upgrade between EPS and the add-value machines at the stations, two customers had reported on January 8 and 24 that money had been deducted from their bank accounts although their add-value transactions were incomplete and no cash had been added to their Octopus cards.
Refunds totalling HK$500 had been arranged for both customers, it said.
It is also checking transaction records to find out if other customers were affected.
'Octopus together with EPS are reviewing all EPS add-value records conducted through all AVMs in MTR and KCR stations since the communication upgrade and will take appropriate action if similar situations affected any other customers,' the operator said last night. Octopus also urged anyone with inquiries to call its customer services hotline on 2266 2222.
