The Reverend John Chynchen reads a prayer before the ashes of war veteran Jack Edwards are interred on a hill overlooking the second world war section of Sai Wan War Cemetery in Chai Wan. The graves of many men who fought and died in Hong Kong can be seen from the final resting place of the late champion of former prisoners of war. Edwards was legendary for his efforts on their behalf with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and the comfort that work afforded families far from Hong Kong.

About 30 people gathered for yesterday's ceremony, with Brigadier Christopher Hammerbeck reading the lesson. The final tribute was provided by Nigel Wightman, a fellow member of the Hong Kong Welsh Male Voice Choir who sounded Taps on the bugle. Edwards died on August 13, aged 88.
