BEAUTIFUL WOMEN AND CULTURE DRIVE QUINCY TO SONG
China's women and rich culture have inspired American impresario Quincy Jones to offer to write the theme tune for the Beijing Olympics. The 73-year-old musician, composer, producer and conductor said on a trip to Beijing this week: 'Everything in the 60 years of my career has led up to this event. I would be very proud to write and orchestrate the theme to the 2008 Olympic Games. We hope our music will help to bring everybody's dreams together,' referring to the 'one world, one dream' slogan for the games. He said he had been bowled over by the country's people and culture. 'I really love this country, the food, the culture, the beautiful women - some of the most beautiful women I've ever seen, whoa!' Jiang Xiaoyu, from the organising committee, welcomed the offer from the 77-time Grammy nominee, but said they would also continue with their official Olympic song competition. About 500 songs and 5,000 sets of lyrics have been submitted to the competition so far, he said.
CUBA AND CHINA TO CO-OPERATE
China and Cuba have agreed to work together in preparing athletes for the Games. A Chinese delegation led by Li Binghua from Bocog visited Havana this week to work out the details of the deal.
