But under-fire premier finally delivers report

Taiwan's opposition and ruling parties staged a tit-for-tat political fracas during the legislative and city council sessions in Taipei yesterday, with opposition pan-blue legislators bullying Premier Frank Hsieh Chang-ting.

But unlike last week, Mr Hsieh was finally able to deliver his administrative report.

Mr Hsieh twice failed to present his administrative policies to the legislature last week due to a boycott by pan-blue legislators demanding that he apologise to the public over what they saw as a poor performance by the Democratic Progressive Party government.

Yesterday's concession from the pan-blue legislators appeared to come in response to a demand by the leader of the main opposition Kuomintang, Ma Ying-jeou, who is also mayor of Taipei.

According to news reports, Mr Ma had asked that KMT legislators end their boycott because it would lower the opposition in the eyes of the public.
