Student inspired by his failures
A student who was expelled from Chinese University of Hong Kong four years ago has won an award for outstanding performance at the Hong Kong Institute of Education.
It was not until Ng Yuen-fung, 25, started tutoring children with no aspirations or motivation in life that he decided to make more out of his own.
'The way they lacked focus and cared more about having fun reminded me of my student days. It made me realise how I'd been wasting my life,' he said.
Yet, the student who twice flunked out of higher education was among 80 students at the HKIEd this week who received awards for outstanding academic performances or teaching practice.
Mr Ng excelled above his 140 first-year classmates in both performance and attitude.
At the opening assembly for new students, HKIEd president Professor Paul Morris urged students to make best use of the institute's facilities and support in order to open their minds to the breadth and depth of knowledge they needed in order to teach.
